LOVE GROWS IN HARD PLACES

When did you first say the words, “I love you” to your special someone? Can you think back to that day?

We remember the day we exchanged those three words vividly and funny enough, it was Valentine’s Day! We were sitting in Andrew’s jeep after a night filled with delicious food, late-night conversations, wine-stained lips, and a romantic acoustic show playing the most heartfelt setlist - it was pretty romantic. Andrew had written and recorded a song just for me and we made out in his car for hours while it played on repeat - hehe. Then as we said goodbye, we breathed out those three powerful words to one another and we were immediately, completely, overwhelmingly done-for.

Though that night was one of the BEST nights of our lives, when we say those words today they mean so much more. Now when we say “I love you” to one another, the statement holds the weight of six beautiful years full of joy, excitement, and lasting hope no doubt, but also much heartache, failure, and loss. Those words have been said after a devastating death of a family member. They’ve been said through battles of expectations when fights have come to their futile end… Valentine’s Day is often filled with happy, mushy, glittery, airy, sweet as candy statements - but I’m reminded each year, that love grows in hard places. So as we set-out to celebrate another “love day” let’s remember this. The next “I love you” you give, is meant to mean more than the last and we must never cease to say it, even when it’s least deserved - because that my friends is when it needs to be heard the most.
